VINCI Airports, a global leader in the management and development of airport infrastructure, has secured a groundbreaking €233 million deal with ANA Aeroportos de Portugal to transform Lisbon Airport. The contract, signed with a prominent consortium that includes Mota-Engil, VINCI Construction Grands Projets, Alves Ribeiro, and HCI, was announced at a high-profile ceremony attended by Portugal’s Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Housing. The comprehensive upgrades, slated for completion by 2027, aim to elevate Lisbon’s status as a premier international hub.

The extensive redevelopment will focus on several key areas to improve passenger experience and enhance operational efficiency:

A major expansion of Terminal 1, featuring a new 33,000-square-meter South Pier built with sustainable, energy-efficient technologies to minimize the airport’s environmental impact.
The construction of 10 state-of-the-art boarding bridges and 12 new aircraft parking stands to accommodate growing air traffic.
A significant redesign of the Central Pier, which will be directly connected to the new South Pier for seamless passenger flow.
Overhaul of the South bus gates, aimed at improving passenger mobility and reducing congestion.

These developments are strategically designed to optimize airport operations while significantly enhancing the comfort and convenience of passengers. The terminal’s expanded space will allow for more efficient boarding processes, ensuring direct access to aircraft and reducing wait times. The new infrastructure will also feature green technologies aimed at lowering the airport’s carbon footprint, improving energy efficiency, and reducing vehicle traffic on the apron.

This investment is a key part of VINCI Airports’ vision to boost Portugal’s connectivity while upgrading the overall quality of service at Lisbon Airport. Already in 2024, ANA has invested €120 million in the country’s airports, underscoring its commitment to modernization and its role in shaping the future of Portuguese aviation.
